Heading towards March 2020, AusIMM is excited for its biggest Underground Operators Conference (UGOPs) yet! Launching a world class technical program, the conference will feature over 45 technical presentations and over 85 exhibitors showcasing the latest innovations and new technologies.

Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to join the conversation with international industry professionals discussing important changes and solutions for the future of underground mining.

UGOPs will focus on ‘Creating Opportunities in the New Frontier’ with technical presentations on process transformation, innovative mining methods and practices, health and safety, collaboration between suppliers, operations and alternative industries, navigating social license, revolutionising the traditional mine and measuring performance.

With pre-conference workshops available, attendees will have the chance to participate in additional professional development opportunities focusing on the ‘Application of risk-based methods in underground mining geomechanics’ and ‘Mining contract management’.

In addition, there are a range of exciting pre-conference tours still available. Experience the fusion of military, Formula 1 and aerospace technology adapted to the mining industry at the Murray Engineering Open Day and explore world class technical training centres at Byrnecut and Barminco.

Conference Chair, Anne-Marie Ebbels MAusIMM(CP) mentions how the Underground Operators Conference 2020 will highlight the importance of applying shifts in technology and working together as a global underground community.

“The key take-away from the conference will be knowledge and the opportunity to implement changes to their own operation. The conference also provides the opportunity to develop a wider network that can be tapped for support for future solutions.”

The conference will feature expert keynote speakers Knut Garshol (Rock Engineering Consultant, Sweden), Roy Slack (President, Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum), Laura Tyler (Asset President Olympic Dam and Chief Geoscientist, BHP) and Gary Zamel (Executive Chairman, CommChain Pty Ltd).

Dr Craig Challen SC OAM, joint winner of the 2019 Australian of the Year, will present his inspiring inside account of the 2018 Thai Cave Rescue, at the Conference Dinner, as part of a fantastic opportunity to network with other industry professionals.
